Plasma is the result of the atom undergoing an irreversible change, it has less free (available) energy.
If you feed heated air into the intake of a jet engine for example, its performance will be less than if it was cooler (lower entropy - higher potential) air or atoms.
It is the differential in potential of the atoms which creates all this power.
What comes out from the exhaust of a jet aircraft with after burners lit is also a form of plasma.
This difference in entropy of the atom from the intake air/fuel mixture and that of the exhaust is what propels the aircraft.

Hi GD, I agree with you that the lower energy state of the cold air the higher the potential to do work when heating that air. You certainly see that principle at work in nature everywhere whereby solar energy drives the differential heating of the earth creating ocean currents and our weather. Heat pumps also require a temperature difference between two areas to make the cooling or heating system function.
I was trying to make a point regarding energy, and levels of entropy as found in nature by looking at other possible scenarios regarding the Universe Dimensional Energy Paradigm. Our normal scientific viewpoint would be that the Universe was formed in a big bang, that energy levels are running down over time as the expansion continues out into the void. Thus, our viewpoint is that we see all systems as entropic and having less available energy to work with over time.
However, the viewpoint that the Atomic Mass alone stores energy and over time becomes more entropic may be incorrect and does not actually take into consideration other possible sources of energy that are released from higher dimensional stresses. Energy levels in our Universe may not be running down at all and in fact it could be increasing locally. We are really only beginning to understand a possible bigger picture that places gravity at tremendous speeds 20 billion times the speed of light (thanks to Tom's work), and this factor alone changes the operation of Universe because it asks the question: Where do such incredible energies originate?
There are some reports that say that our solar system is currently under an increase in energy bombardment that is causing major solar system wide changes. Dr. Dmitriev report found at cyberspaceorbit:

.....Then comes the information out of Russia last month, from the Russian National Academy of Science in Siberia, where scientists have come to the conclusion that we have moved into an area of space that is different and has a much higher energy level.

Entropy, a measure of the energy in a system or process that is unavailable to do work. In a reversible thermodynamic process, entropy is expressed as the heat absorbed or emitted divided by the absolute temperature.
I was referring to the possibility that "Free Energy" may be more than what can be released with in any given atomic reaction. Maybe the energy state of any given atomic or molecular reaction has other unknown variables that defy normal explanation. Take for instance, ball lightning that certainly is an excited plasma state and behaves as if it is almost in another dimension. The plasma can pierce right through a key hole and reform into a ball and emite very little heat passing right next to a person without harm, that is until it explodes then tremendous heat and charge can kill a person.
As I mentioned in the previous message about the Hydrogen Plasma's releasing tremendous energies. One possible explanation is that somehow the nucleus stores a huge charge much like a capacitor, or a conduit is briefly openned up to a higher dimensional flow of energies that are at frequencies much greater then light and because these higher frequencies are not detectable we only see the downgraded results of this energy release.
So, I do think that our normal viewpoint of mass converting to energy is limited at best. There is just too much of a difference between energy levels from fire to atomic blasts to not have openned up some sort of dimensional energy window. In any regards, the tremendous heating of the coronal discharge shows that this resonance that is taking place within our sun must also interface to other more extreme frequencies that mankind at this time is not able to detect.

I think we should find solutions instead of creating other inexplicable phenomenon that could miraculously solve problems (ie: other dimensional stresses, unknown variables that defy normal explanation).
Your statement on the glowing, excited plasma that is the sun's helioshere is troubling at best. This means we are entering a high entropy region of the galaxy.
This will definitely affect the potential of our solar system.
John, when atoms glow, this means less potential energy for the atom, and not the other way around.
I think it all comes down to how we want to perceive our universe. Since man is above all, then this implies that the universe shall be indestructible.

The short explanation is that existing physics does not fully explain higher energy sources that may exist in our Universe. The short explanation is that existing physics does not fully explain higher energy sources that may exist in our Universe. If we do not evolve our thinking quickly then we will be utilizing an antiquated energy paradigm that will continue to cause further hardships upon our economy as oil prices continue to rise, and upon the third world causing further pressures and deterioration of social conditions.
