It's funny that I never thought of doing this HiRise simulation before. In my opinion, it's very revealing. I remember wondering about it a couple times "what would something we know look like?" but it never really coalesced into an action item.

Rich, well I am following to some degree but I think I will need some practice at this.

Would you have the time to advise on a "work in process"? I have posted and cropped image here

maintaining the 100% parameters required and have placed two(2) location squares and was wondering if you could ascertain the distance from right to left of these squares for me?

You know, in addition to what you guys are working on now, I would love to see a hemisphere shot of Mars with an arrow (or a Google map pin :-) pointing to where this place is.

Right now this is just 'some place' on 'some planet'. BFD. Where is The Face from here? Or Olympus Mons? The equator and the poles?

I'd like to know where I am. (It's my intuition again. Nag, nag. But I think this might be important. Not sure how or why ...)

What if there turned out to be some sort of pattern to the locations of the interesting places? Or, what if they are random? Does either help or hurt the artificial meme?

Any ideas on how to make that happen?

Larry, the location is the south facing wall approx center in Hebes Chasma. Here is the location on the planet

Here is the location close up in the Chasma. Also, the Catalog page from HiRIS is posted as a link above.

Very cool. It is geographically associated with the Valles Marineris and other related features. Thanks.

Do you know Tom's theory about how this network of canyons were formed, and why they were (perhaps had to be) formed here instead of somewhere else on Mars?
