You state this energy assumption very well. The joule or erg are units everyone uses all the time with no thought at all about what they are. A joule is a wattsecond and a watt is a well understood unit in any system. My point is energy and mass don't have to be united by speed squared even though that is assumed to be correct. The real constant could be a little more or less and no one would know the difference. Or has it been proven?

I think it has not been proven yet because the universe is still a mystery to us.
Our comprehension of "c squared" is important. We are in the first steps of a better control of particle accelerations (which led us into the nuclear age).
I think this understanding will result in a better knowledge of the relationship between energy, matter, and acceleration.
Is there a correlation between the solar system's acceleration and global warming ?
Is there a connection between Jupiter's orbit and solar activity ?
Matter has a limit to its acceleration. Too much acceleration might mean less energy for matter, more heat.
I think this is something that should be looked into.

It would be a good thing if acceleration limits were established as you suggest. Do you have any idea how to do this? If you start with the speed limit of the speed of light(light has an exact speed) where does acceleration occur? Heat is infared light interacting with mass so don't use heat as a place to deposit excesses.

I would suspect that the sun, which is the lowest energy "reservoir" in the solar system, has its matter traveling close to the speed of light. But its motion is restrained by matter next to it. These collisions create an incredible amount of energy as E=mc^2 is attained. This is the light and heat that reaches us.
