LB your educational experiences pretty much mirror mine, except for the "several degrees" part. I was hurt in a car accident after my 3rd year in university so I couldn't work that summer and there was no money to go back. So I went off and found a job in the city and the rest is history.

So I never got my BSc in physics and math, but I enjoyed applying my scientific learning to business situations and I continued to self-educate myself in directions that I found interesting.

There appear to be no SVS schools in Canada. I have asked my daughter (mother of my 9 year old grandson) to review the site and let me know if she would be interested in trying to get one organized - that I would be willing to help out. So far I have not had a reply.

There have been some democratic schools in Canada, but they all closed in the mid to late 2000s. There have been some failures in the US and in other countries as well.

I plan to study them as much as possible. Knowing what <u>not</u> to do is usually AT LEAST as important as knowing what does need to be done.

None in Canada? Contact the one in Mass anyway. If there have been any inquiries for info or help from Canada they will probably know. If the inquiry came from your town, even better.

There are dozens of videos about life in a Sudbury type school. One I found particularly interesting had some staff members talking about the hiring and firing process. They get one year contracts, and each year the 'School Committee' meets to decide who stays and who goes. And if they need anyone new.

The SC membership comprises all staff and all students. Each person gets one vote (even the four year olds). In a typical school there will be about 20 students for each staff member. Since the SC makes <u>all</u> management decisions, the kids literally run the business.

This video shows two female staff members talking about how they get worried each year at contract renewal time. If they 'p*ss *ff' enough students they might not have a job soon. And you can lose your job for being too easy as well as for being too hard.

The 'interview' process for a potential new hire is also very odd. They go there for a week or so and just hang out, mingling with the kids and the staff. Then at the next SC meeting everyone votes on them.

So strange. So cool.

I didn't see any Canadian addresses on their list of SV schools elsewhere. We will certainly get in touch with them if my daughter decides to proceed.

There must be some interesting discussions at those meetings - you cannot fool the kids.
