Mal Education - System Design - Should Be VS Is

I found a very strange school. It is probably better than my Hyper School idea, and it already exists. (Been around since 1968, I believe. And there are supposed to others like it. Still looking ...)

There is one thing about this school that puzzles me. Well actually there are a number of things, but one in particular. Most home schools and private schools and charter schools are more or less a part pf the monopoly system. They are different (usually better) than the monopoly schools in some ways, but they still have to do many things dictated by the "the man".

So ... how does this school avoid that?

No classes. No curriculum. No tests. No transcript. I'm not sure yet, but I believe they don't even have any teachers. At least, not in the way we understand them today. The kids teach themselves and they teach each other. (One of the BEST ways to learn something is to teach it to someone else.)

I've been talking a lot about the 'monopoly' education system we have. But I've also mentioned that it is not one of the old fashioned styles of monopoly. They do allow some 'competition' as long as it follows certain rules.

But this new data point seems to be completely off the graph.

When I started this little project I mentioned that I hoped to learn as well as teach. It looks like I'm getting my wish.

This is very strange. And very cool.

Wow! That FAQ sure validates much of what we have been talking about.

Cost might be a hurdle, but if it considered to be part of the cost of child care {baby sitting} maybe it isn't so bad.

I have not examined the subsidiary material available on their website - maybe there is a how-to-do-it manual there. This has me thinking about how to get one organized in this area.

I have a rent house and my tenants are wanting to send their kids to a Lamplighter School in a few years. $17,000 per year, each. That's almost as much as the monopoly schools spend per student. (And it's more than their RENT

So eight grand is actually a bargain.

There are other schools like this (there is a list on the website). All around the world. About two dozen here in the states. The closest one to me is in Austin. (Texas)

And I'm also wondering about how to start one closer.
