- We keep looking at better and better quality pictures, never agreeing to what they represent,

- We happen to be looking at these pictures in a very busy shopping mall, so people start to get involved and take sides,

- All of a sudden, someone says: 'Look! It is both a clock and a pizza!'

- We turn around and see an Italian restaurant proudly displaying a pizza-shaped-clock with green-peppers-roman-numerals...

- Everybody has reached a consensus.

Ephemeral, it took awhile for this to sink in, but yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. It begins totally subjective, with neither side willing to budge. But, after a number of iterations of better data, more debates, more people weighing in, eventually there is a consensus.

My contention is that regardless of whether or not we assume artificiality, some of the images we have to work with are not very far beyond:

"- An out-of-focus photo shows a circular shape," for images that are both before, and after, predictions of any kind.

I believe that's the point jrich is making also.

rd,

To answer your original question, yes, I think pareidolia can, indeed, be that elaborate.

JR,

I drafted a reply, but the Board ate it before I could post. I'll reconstruct it as soon as I have a bit more time. -|Tom|-

Emanuel, I think the question has matured and evolved, since I first posed it in March, but I appreciate your input.

And yes, I think you might be right.
Regarding the elephants, I know very little. I've seen a diagram on JP Levasseur's site: marsartifacts.tripod.com/ (in the Skullface link), and some mention of how Skully is in the trunk of one of them, and that the whole West Candor Chama has an elephant's trunk, but that's about it. A couple of bits and peices in correspondences.
I don't want to derail you from other pursuits, but would like to see where you and Neil go if you follow the elephant trail when time allows. This trail leads strictly toward an evolving understanding of the kinds and purposes of images we are seeing, rather than toward proof of artificiality. But your skullface dilemma will emerge in a new light at the end of this trail, so it will probably influence your thinking about pereidolia as a by-product.

quote:
Is it possible to get that back issue of MRB you mentioned? Can we buy them on the website?

It is well-past the 2-year embargo, so I'll try to get this article posted on the web site sometime soon. In the meantime, any back issues can be ordered through the web site store.

The article was not posted sooner because it belongs to the "interpretive phase" of Mars exploration rather than the "proof of artificiality" phase. And most people aren't ready to go there just yet. -|Tom|-

Thats happened to me more than once and sometimes the exercise of reconstructing my thoughts has resulted in an improved post, but its certainly not something I enjoyed. Regardless, I now habitually backup my thoughts before I hit the post button, just in case.
