The theory would state that “ZERO”(pure existence) is the only thing that is truly infinite because everything else that exists is dependant on something else for its existence. (ie. Time is dependant on space)

Don't look any further than the obvious:

X/infinity = 0

What does this really mean? If we take the entity X and we divide it infinite times we get 0. So what happened to X in the first place? Isn't there? Of course, it is! How?

0*infinity = X, But X can be anything in the Universe, including out original X.

or,

0*infinity = everything (X)

If we think in input-output terms, 0 is the transfer function, or in fancy terms, the OPERATOR, than transforms infinity into everything. For the Universe to exist, both 0 and infinity are required. A finite universe will not be passible, in this context (0*finite=0)

In this context, ZERO is the primary mechanism for existence. Infinity is the input. Physical reality is the output.

But ZERO and INFINITE is not the same thing.

I really hate to get sucked into this again, but the maths doesn't apply, to summarise something I posted elsewhere re infinity in arithmetic -

if x/inf = 0 and we add 1 to both sides

x/inf + 1 = 1

then multiply both sides by infinity

x + inf = inf

which, subtracting infinity from both sides leads us to

x = 0

Basically infinity doesn't exist in mathematics, so no mathematical argument is applicable where you use it as a constant or a variable.

You guys are just going to go around in circles until this thread overloads the server.

(x/inf) + 1 = 1

This operation is invalid. The reason is that left hand is equivalent to:

(x+inf)/inf

which is an undetermined operation, inf/inf

Furthemore,

in inf+x=inf, subtracting inf from both sides is another invalid operation. You cannot subtract infinity from infinity Atko. You can neither divide inf by inf or 0 by 0.

Makis

EXACTLY. This is the point I've been trying to hammer home (and I swear I'll give up after this post) throughout this and other threads related to this Zero/Infinity shenanigans. But it's not simply a case of the instances you reference - you can't use infinity in any computation - x/infinity is just as meaningless as inf/0, o/inf etc etc.

Infinity only has application as a limit, and even then it doesn't tell you anything concrete beyond that there is no limit. Maths simply doesn't apply to this thread; trying to reference it as a proof is sheer pseudo-science of the worst kind.

Okay, why should I spoil your fun by injecting reality? (and if anyone says, "But what is reality?" I'll sign 'em up for a lifetime subscription to The National Enquirer).

Just try not to use arithmetic which employs zero and infinity as accepted by everyone else on the planet, when you have redefined them to suit yourself for the purposes of this interminable discussion.

Sorry, just before I expire, isn't it down to YOU to prove

quote:
the entity described as "ZERO" in this thread is still the purest form of existence. Please try to disprove that.

???

Okay - I'm really going this time...
