In my opinion, that's the source of most of the friction, especially since nobody else sees it. Or we may see something, but (a) we're not sure if it's the same something, or (b) we think: <b><i>SO? What about it?</i></b>
That's why the art posters rarely influence anyone else. So while you don't need to be a rocket scientist, you do need to prove your assertions to get anywhere. I mean, sure, you can say you don't need to prove anything to anyone, but then again, what's the point?
