Oh my. You are absolutely right, Tom. I didn't know the data was there. This means there are lots more strips to look at. I just have to download them into photoshop first.

That way we know we're talking "apples to apples". I would gladly stand corrected, and learn from the experience. Please take R07 and make it look like M03 or E05 (roughly).

Here's a cropping from R0701791 with nothing done to it, except cropping from the original MSSS strip R0701791.gif. This will make it easier to do the comparison. Please just save this to your harddrive, and adjust it to show the same kind of detail as above in the M0305549 image.

As you will note from our post above and from the MSSS website data summary accompanying each image, that the other Public Request image containing part of the Profile Image, but offset somewhat to the left is R1201454. The scaled pixel width on that image (call it R12) is 5.97, which is practically the same as M0305549, which is 5.65.
Therefore, if the supposition is correct that this is all a matter of variations in brightness and contrast, then R12 should be able to be adjusted to make the part of the Profile still included in it, appear as clearly defined as it does in M03.
But if our working hypothesis is correct, that the data is for some reason is absent from the image, then increasing brightness and contrast will have only a very limited effect. Can Tom or Rich or someone with good photo enhancing software please do that experiment and let us know which is the case.
