The Structure of a Society

There is that accurate-communication-bug again. It should not be so hard, but it is.

***

So.

No one has to work? None of us? We just think we do?

If we would all just STOP WORKING the food would still be there? Our parents and Nature fixed it that way?

***

I have to be missing your point.

Missing the point for sure. I wonder why that is the case here since I never said anything like that. Having to earn a living is the issue not quitting a job. No one should be required to earn a living. Living is a right just like FDRs 4 freedoms are rights. All the welfare and other band-aids is aimed the wrong way as well as employment practices. And it seems to me these systems will never help until it is understood people cannot be fully employed in the modern world because machines can do the work much better.

I think I missed the point too Jim.

Jim: There is no need now for anyone to earn a living because there is more than enough to care for everyone on the planet ...

Did someone hi-jack your account?

Shando, I suppose my use of words can be less than ideal and in need of editing. Why not do as LB has done?

Jim,

Shando could post his interpretation of your words as I did. But it might make more sense for you rephrase your words yourself.

Think about how we have misunderstood you. (So, shando should post his interpretation to help you with this process.) Then post your thoughts again.

It can be pretty hard to put some thoughts into words because we don't have adequate words. I for one am interested in what you really meant.

OK, sorry if I mis-understood your points Jim - no offence intended.

Here is what has me confused:

Jim: We have rid the world of the idea people have to earn the right to live and let the machines do the work. (Page six of the "System Design - Should Be VS Is" thread)

Jim: There is no need now for anyone to earn a living because there is more than enough to care for everyone on the planet ...

Jim: Having to earn a living is the issue not quitting a job. No one should be required to earn a living.

I inferred from the above that you believe no one should have to work.

I wondered where sustenance would come from if everyone adopted this attitude and acted on it.

It seemed that LB had the same impression.

Then Jim said: Missing the point for sure. I wonder why that is the case here since I never said anything like that.

Please help me understand what you mean.
