This event happens and is seen very clearly in the seabed rock. The magnetic reversal is used to measure the spreading of the seafloor.

Was it Hapgood who suggested that the poleshifts were in fact land mass shifts (crustal displacements)? I.e. that rather than the poles themselves moving, they stayed where they were but the land around them moved?

Is not a magnetic pole shift different from a terresterial pole shift (where the entire earth careens over) or a crustal pole shift (as people like Hapgood propose)?

I am not fully clued in on to the intricacies and correct me if I am not corret but in a magnetic pole shift the earth will not careen over nor will any crustal displacement take place.

However, a careening over of our earth is also due any time between now and the next 2000 years. I quite believe what Hugh Auchincloss Brown elaborated on in his "Cataclysms of the Earth" (non-fiction) and based on which Allen Eckert wrote the book (ficition) "The HAB Theory". Both the books' works are well covered at www.habtheory.com .
