Poincare and Einstein

My first thoughts on this, are that if we have a matter sphere it will contract down to a horizontal line. A light sphere will contract down to a vertical line. They're normal to each other, so no work being done in one of them. Perhaps we could read this paper and then Tom's paper on gravity and compare notes.

Some of us are not going to follow that link.

Some who do are not going to read enough of what is there to be able to follow you.

I recommend that you provide a summary of what you are talking about. <u>Then</u> talk about it.

<b>[Stoat] "Perhaps we could read this paper and then Tom's paper on gravity and compare notes."</b>

There are a great many papers out there, from both mainstream and kook authors, for which this suggestion is valid. Since you have already read some of it it would be a great service if you would share with us a little discussion about why you think this particular paper deserves attention now, as opposed to several years from now.

Hmmm. If you show us what lit your fire about it, perhaps we will be similarly energized?

Regards,
LB

To all, BTW: this paper seems to have some historical threads that are likely to be interesting (if not important). EVEN SO, I do not have time for it now.

But that could change, if I were to learn something that I do not know now.

Stoat - why don't you take the lead on this? Begin the comparison that you suggest and let us watch. Make it easy for us to WANT to join in, ask questions, and do some extra reading.

Tom talked about the differences between the two relativistic theories of Lorentz and Einstein. However the work on relativistic theory was first done by Lorentz, Poincare and Reimann. Any papers that show Poincare's views on relativity, after the acceptance of Einstein's as "correct," have to be of interest to this board. Lorentz did write to Einstein but I've never seen anything from Poincare. It looks as though Poincare just blanked the man.
