I'd recommend using a non-inverting CMOS bus driver IC's (don't use the open-drain/open-collector variety); connect all the elements in the package in parallel, load the output with the series connection of a ~50 pf variable capacitor (to fine-tune the freq), the xtal and a ~30 Ohm variable resistor (potentiometer with one end and middle connected) to the ground wire, also shunt that potentiometer with a ~100 pf capacitor. Bias the input into about linearity with pull-up/pull-down resistors and arrange a positive feedback from the point of connection of xtal and the potentiometer to the input througn ~1 nf capacitor (1 nf is not critical). Then adjust the potentiometer to max signal current through the xtal.
(Or use any regular non-inverting 5V CMOS element with a complementary follower made of mid-power FETs, or use an op-amp with high enough output current rating or with an additional follower circuit in the output - the choice of active element is all yours.)

I think you guys might be on to something. I am concerned about the proof however, in that there is going to be a lot of finger pointing about the response of electronic components. Particularily where capacitance is used.
Not saying it won't work. I'm saying you will have a hard sell once you have data that you think is viable.

I have a question on that setup. What are you measuring and how is it calibrated. I didn't read anything about the calibration of signal readings corresponding presumably to some physical quantities. Do you have a model for linking measurements to physical quantities? This sounds like mearuring the speed of the resonant coupling of crystals. The non-screenable part may be due to self-excitation.

I'mwith Mark. I have read over but perhaps not fully digested your game plan. If I understand correctly you propose to excite a large crystal at a frequency that can induce gravitational response in a reciever crystal.
1 - Should you crystals system be encased inside a vacuum chamber?
2 - How are you shielding the reciever from EM from the transmitter?
