Hi Sir Zep, I wouldn't lose heart, as I've said in other threads, as soon as the idea of negative refractive index is mentioned, a veil of secrecy falls over the work. Here's an interesting article which shows a diagram that might be close to the ferrofluid's set up at times.

One reason why the military are after this work is the idea of "cloaking" aeroplanes.
Have you tried using sound rather than a magnetic field?

Hi Stoat, Good thing I didn't quit. No I didn't try sound yet. Still working with magnetic and electric fields.
My last photo run is a bit better than normal. Using 15 sets of red, yellow, and green LEDs around the perimeter of the lens.
These two photos are different profile views of the same two magnets.
In the first photo, the left magnet is NS and the right magnet is SN. This places a NS or SN interface at all four poles. Notice in the center, how the field twists.

In the second photo, both left and right magnets are NS. This seems to link thier fields together, with light passing from one side of the cell to the other.

And here is my rewritten paper.

Hi Sir Zerp, I think that what I'd want to do with sound, is to play e major, lets say, take a photograph of what happens, then invert the sound. This is the technique used for fighter jet pilots helmets. A computer inverts the engine noise sound wave, with the result of no noise getting through to the pilots ears.
Then do the experiment with lights, and inverted sound. Two different sorts of wave, longitudinal and transverse, and one; the sound wave; wave is cancelled out but its energy is still there. The light waves will alter the material and that will knock the computer inversion out of phase and create a new tone.
(Edited) In England, when talking about funding, (still considered to be rather vulgar) the meeting would adjourn to the bar, where idle musings are allowed. A tuneable phonon/photon tank circuit would be nice can be dropped, casually, into the conversation. Talk about negative refractive index, talk about bec zones that can be induced to collapse, and then reinstate nearby would follow over a few pints. Its of great interest, what happens to Cooper pairs when they leave a bec super conducting region, and suddenly have to dump a lot of energy. The trouble is, the theory of how phonons maintain cooper pairs is still pretty vague. Using inverted sound to alter phonons is at least a promising possibility.

A question for you. Does your supplier of ferromagnetic fluid (which is really a paramagnetic fluid) also make a diamagnetic fluid? I would think that bismuth nano spheres would be the thing to look for. I cant see any great problems in making them, as it's just a high tech version of a shot tower.
